Our history

“Aviation was his passion.”

Tony Aiello, the company’s founder, loved aviation, going back to his Piper Aztec and Navajo. He made his living as a large general contractor in DuPage County, but he always said aviation was his passion. In the early 1970s he built the first of several T-hangars on DuPage Airport. He went on to build the three IMR hangars and, later, Hangar 17, a T-hangar unusual for being designed for corporate jets and turboprops.

In the late 1970s Tony bought an interest in a small FBO on the airport, which he sold to the Airport Authority in the mid-1980s. He couldn’t stay away from aviation for long, and soon started another FBO, the business that became DuPage Aerospace Corporation. Our hangar is in the fifth building Tony built on the airport.

Tony passed away in March 2011. The Aiello family asked John Bullock, Tony’s partner in the original 1970s FBO, to carry on Tony’s vision. Together with the Aiello family, DuPage Aerospace remains dedicated to Tony’s passion for aviation.

DuPage Airport · KDPA

From barnstorming strip to corporate airfield.

DuPage Airport is 29 miles west of downtown Chicago, surrounded by West Chicago, St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia. Its history goes back to 1927, when two Chicago entrepreneurs turned sheep-grazing land into a grass strip for barnstorming. The U.S. Navy acquired the field in 1941 and built paved runways and brick hangars, which became active in 1943. After the war the Navy sold the airport to DuPage County.

Today the airport’s longest runway is 7,570 feet, among the longest in the Chicago area after O’Hare.
